哈尔滨工业大学土木工程学院起源于 1920 年建校伊始的铁路建筑科，1950 年成立新中国第一个工民建专业，1995年土木工程专业首批通过国家专业评估;拥有的土木工程和力学两个国家一级重点学科,在 2017年教育部第四轮学科评估中均位列A档,并入选国家“双一流”建设名单。学院拥有国家地方联合工程中心、国家级实验教学示范中心、省部共建协同创新中心和5个部级重点实验室。学院拥有以王光远、谢礼立、沈世钊、欧进萍，4位中国工程院院士;李惠，1位中国科学院院士;30余位国家级高层次人才和国家级青年人才组成的一流科研团队，在高性能结构、多灾害防御、新型建筑材料、智能土木、韧性城市等领域发挥重要引领作用。研究成果发表在《Science》、《Nature》等国际顶级期刊，主持编制《钢结构通用技术规范》等国家规范、标准，支撑“中国天眼”、冬奥场馆、港珠澳大桥等国之重器和国家重大建设项目。

土木工程学院名师荟萃、薪火相传。学院拥有哈工大第一位华人专业教师陈雨波，哈工大“八百壮士”代表李德滋、钟善桐等，国家教学名师王焕定，还有一大批新生代优秀教师。一代代土木人仰望星空，脚踏实地，无私奉献，绘就了一幅壮美的百年画卷。学院培养了3万余名土木精英，涌现了众多杰出校友，其中有全国政协副主席、原文化部部长、甘肃省原省委书记等国家和省部级领导，30余位大学校长，40余位院士、国家级高层次人才、国家杰出青年科学基金获得者，还有以“中国大学生自强之星标兵”吴步晨为代表的新时代优秀学子。
