Curriculum vitae; copy of official transcript (with a complete record of courses attended and examination results) of all tertiary level studies; copy of official score report for English assessment (if available); copy of certifying letter (with official stamp) for your ranking in the class with total number of students (if applicable); any materials that the applicants think helpful to the applications. Students are highly encouraged to visit our faculty webpages to identify the labs whom they would like to visit, and indicate their preferences on the application form.

Department of Biomedical Sciences – City University of Hong Kong

City University of Hong Kong has achieved phenomenal growth since its establishment as a University in 1994. To date, it has a student population of more than 20,000 enrolled in more than 130 programmes at the associate degree, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The University is located at Kowloon Tong, a central location of Kowloon district. CityU has been ranked 49th in the world, 8th in Asia, and 4th in top 50 universities under 50 years old in 2016 QS World University Rankings. The Department of Biomedical Sciences was established by the University in January 2014 to develop strategic growth areas of life sciences. The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and has recently recruited 30 top-notch researchers to our faculty. The Department also carries out internationally competitive and cutting edge research in biomedical sciences, promotes inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary collaborations, and facilitates the translation of basic research to industries. Our research focus/expertise of the current faculties include: (1) Cancer Biology; (2) Regenerative Medicine; (3) Neuroscience; (4) Nanomedicine; and (5) Microbiology.

Studentship

Each successful applicant will receive a stipend of HKD16,200* (HKD20,000 for HKPFS recipients) per month.

* Studentship (tentative) is subject to revision in September every year.

Entrance Requirements

• Basic requirement: holds a Bachelor’s degree (first class honours or equivalent) or Master’s degree from a recognised university.
• English requirement: TOEFL 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (internet-based); or IELTS score of 6.5; or CET-6 score of 490 (on a case-by-case basis, not accepted for HKPFS applications).
